Mom's great scare

Well, the rain thing has been going and going. The dachsies certainly know how to give rain!

My mom was driving home from work today (she works at Kirtland Air Force Base). She usually drives in what she calls the South Gate. The rain started coming down really hard just before she got thru the South Gate. There was water a good half-inch deep rolling down the road toward the main arroyo (like a huge dirt ditch) that carries water to the river. She crossed the arroyo but the water wasn't deep yet. She turned west to drive out to the Interstate road. She got only a little past the turn and had to come to a stop. A wall of mud, water and other garbage type stuff was roaring down into the road in front of her. She had to back up and make a U turn and go back thru all the water which was then nearly a foot deep. She made it back into the Air Base and told the guard what was happening. After that, she had to go out another gate and make it thru the city with it thundering and lightning and raining. She was scared and upset by the time she got home. I cheered her up right away by asking for a butt rub.

Looks like I will either be in my crate or in the house if it keeps raining all night like the weather people are predicting.

Say- I found a story on a black lab from Boston. She is an ambassador. Her story is found here:

I don't know much more about her than that. Her job sounds like a good thing!

Opy- I would half agree with you on that matter is they did anything interesting while they are home. My mom is either making jewelry, working on the computer (work she brings home from her day job) or reading. At least dad does interesting things like gardening.

Your mum sounds like mine - except I think mine is just what you would call lazy with a capital "L" !!! She loves to snooze on the lounge, sometimes she wakes me up with her snoring - and sometimes I wake her up with mine - we have a "give and take" relationship :-)

Oh no! What have we done? We were trying to be helpful. We guess we dachsies are more powerful than we thought! (We thought the rain was coming back today since Mom got the car washed.) Take care of your mom. Those butt rubs are great!

Hey Charlie Kelley-Church,

You asked on my blog if flyball was hard. If you're a blue heeler cross, you could probably do it no problem. There are things about it that are kind of hard, but mostly it just takes a lot of practice. It's a lot easier if you have some ball drive and aren't too worried about other dogs running toward you. Sheep herding, though, is pretty tricky (maybe you could do that too since you're a blue heeler, though)

My people like to play in the garden, too, but if I try to help they tell me to get out. What should I do?

Opy- I'm fine but my mom has been hogging the computer to do her work at home (you know what's that like!). I'm hoping that tomorrow she will let me have at it. She is usualy mellow after she has her nails done (she gets them done every other week- she says she is high maintenance) and her appointment is tomorrow.

Pippin- I don't even know what it is like to have other dogs running towards me. My mom keeps saying we should go to the dog park but so far we have not gone. Maybe if I refused to guard any more, they would take me.

That sounds SO scary! I'm glad it all turned out OK and that you were there to comfort her.
